The Operational Gap
Crises move across teams, organisations and sectors quickly. A written communication plan can help, but it is not enough on its own.
Effective preparedness depends on people who can assess changing information, make sound decisions, understand different audiences and work with others under pressure.
RiskComms Academy develops those practical capabilities through courses, workshops and applied learning.
Every programme is grounded in practical competencies developed across real epidemic responses, nuclear incident communications, humanitarian operations, and corporate crises on six continents.
Delivery Formats
From individual upskilling to full organisational deployment. First in the catalogue: the ISO 22361 Crisis Communication Implementation Programme.

The Architect
Philippe Borremans is a Crisis, Risk & Emergency Communication Consultant with 25 years of field experience across 50+ countries on six continents. He has led communication operations for epidemic responses in Southeast Asia, nuclear incident communications in Europe, humanitarian crises across Africa and the Middle East, and corporate crises for multinational clients.
He is a former President of the International Public Relations Association and a former Vice President of the International Association of Risk and Crisis Communication. His newsletter, Wag The Dog, is read by nearly 2,000 practitioners worldwide with open rates consistently above 64%.
The Academy is not a pivot into training. It is the structured delivery of what he has been teaching informally for two decades — now made accessible to practitioners who cannot afford to learn it through a crisis they were not ready for.

Common Questions
Yes. Every purchase generates a full VAT invoice that can be submitted directly to your employer or HR department for professional development reimbursement. If your organisation requires a formal training proposal or learning objectives document, get in touch and I will normally respond within one business day to discuss your requirements and the next step.
Crisis professionals are sometimes pulled into actual crises. If you miss a live cohort session due to a real-world emergency, you will receive a full recording and a written debrief from the session facilitator. You can also join the equivalent session in the next cohort cycle at no additional cost.
Yes — customisation is the default for all corporate and bespoke programmes. Before delivery, I conduct a structured risk landscape assessment and stakeholder mapping exercise. The programme is then built around your sector's specific regulatory environment, your organisation's existing plans, and the capability gaps identified in the assessment.
The approach is grounded in 25 years of operational practice across epidemic response, nuclear incident communications, humanitarian operations, and corporate crises. Unlike academic models, every competency has been applied in live, high-pressure situations. It is structured around four phases — Anticipate, Engage, Sustain, Restore — and a set of measurable, practical competencies.
The Foundation Collection self-paced courses are designed for completion in 4–8 hours per module, accessible on your own schedule. The Practice Collection cohort runs over 6 weeks with approximately 3–4 hours of commitment per week. The Transformation Collection executive workshop is an intensive 2-day format. Bespoke corporate programmes are scoped individually.
Yes. Participants who complete the full programme requirements receive a Certificate of Completion from RiskComms Academy. The certification pathway has three levels — Foundation, Professional, and Master — each requiring a defined combination of courses, workshops, and assessed exercises.
